This ca. 1890-1920 applique quilt is in the showy "Princess Feather" design. The red is turkey red, a pre-1900 fabric, but the green (now taupe) fabric was made between 1890 and 1920. The color change from green to taupe is typical of the greens of this period, which were dyed with "fugitive" dyes. The quilt is quite large (it is shown on a full sized bed), measuring 94" X 98". It would fit a queen sized bed generously. The work is all hand-stitching; the quilt is an original adaptation of the traditional design (not a kit; the corners didn't quite line up). There are a few minor repairs (shown in the photographs) but overall, the quilt is in excellent condition. It is beautifully and ornately hand-quilted at 8-10 stitches per inch. This quilt came from a suburban Chicago collection.
