This sauce boat with underliner is semi-porcelain china with a pretty, delicate floral design. It is in the "Colonial" design from J. G. Meakin, Hanley, England, and dates from around 1890. The floral design, which flowed a bit during the firing, is a transfer underglaze in a lovely deep blue. The sauce boat is footed and has an applied handle. The underliner, which may be used separately as a small serving platter, is a pretty, sculptured oval with flared ends. Neither piece has gold decoration. Both pieces are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. There is some crazing of the glaze with minor staining of the underliner. The sauce boat is 8" X 3 1/2" X 4," and the liner is 8 1/2" X 5 1/4" X 1" deep.
