This unusual round covered vegetable dish from J.G. Meakin, Hanley, England, is semi-porcelain china with a pretty, delicate floral design. It dates from around 1890. The design, "Colonial," which flowed a bit during the firing, is a transfer underglaze in a lovely deep blue. The serving dish is footed and has two applied handles. There is a floral spray on the inside bottom of the dish. There is a lid with a fancy handle. There is no gold on these pieces. Both pieces are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks, but the glaze has developed some crazing. There is slight staining on the inside of the base of the dish. The lid has no staining but is crazed also. The piece is 10" long X 8 1/4" across X 4 1/2" high.
