Depression-Era Pieced and Embroidered Friendship Quilt
This pretty quilt features 42 hand-embroidered squares, many with a basket motif, each signed by different people. There is a hand-pieced and scalloped border that adds interest. Many squares are dated with dates between 1930 and 1933. This quilt, when completed, would have been presented by friends as a gift to commemorate a wedding, big move, or other important event. The quilt is in fine, although slightly faded, condition. It measures 75" X 87" and is shown on a full-sized bed. The quilt is 100% cotton and is washable in the washing machine in cold water and may be dried in the dryer. It is hand-quilted at 8 stitches per inch. Quilts such as these seldom come up for sale because they have sentimental value to the family. This one came from a Chicago area collection that was put together in the 1980's.
