This lovely quilt has never been used; it came from a Chicago area family collection stored for over 40 years. The quilt has been recently cleaned and is ready to display in your home. The "cherry baskets" that compose the design are pieced by hand and have appliqued handles. The quilting is expert at 9-10 stitches per inch; it is perfectly lined up and set off with feather wreaths. The quilt dates from the early 20th century. A paper attached to one corner gives the maker as Mrs. James Sankey, Jr. and the date of around 1928. Embroidery on the back also names this quilter, who learned the craft in Victorian times and quilted with great skill. The green fabric has been dyed with a fugitive green dye dating from between 1890 and 1920; it is subject to fading and should be protected from bright sunlight. This quilt measures 78" X 92" and will fit a full sized bed. It is truly a lovely textile.
