This ca. 1920 box is marked "China" on the bottom in a way that dates it from around 1900-1930. The metal is copper or brass with a white metal plating. The top and sides are enameled in a technique similar to cloisonne, except that the metal lines separating the colors are raised. There are three figures on the lid; one is a Chinese gentleman in traditional dress laying on a bed; another man carrying a staff is approaching him; a third man holding a palette is looking out of a window; his back is turned. The box is nicely hand-wrought; colors used include turquoise, green, rose, and blue. The sides are also enamel work, floral in design, using the same four colors. The inside is white metal. The box measures 2 1/2" X 2" X 3/4" thick. It is in excellent original condition except for the patina of age.
