This brooch is around 100-125 years old. Its mark is "Zechoslovakia," an early spelling of Czechoslovakia, which became a country in 1920, after World War I. The pin is gold-filled, built up in three layers superimposed upon each other in the Victorian manner. The shape is a modified 8-pointed star with open areas between the points and a single larger stone in the center. The faceted garnets are rose-cut, coming to a point on top. All stones are hand set in many-pronged beds. This pin measures 1" across by 1/4" thick. It has the tube hinge of the Victorian era, but also has the shorter pin bar of a later period; there has been a safety catch added; a nice soft-soldering job. This little pin is in excellent condition with all stones original.
