This large ladies' fan (14 1/2" high X 24" across open) has a wooden frame. The wood is a fine-grained black wood with a satiny finish and carving on the handle. There is a brass ring at the bottom of the fan. The body of the fan is black satin backed with black stiffened grosgrain taffeta. There is a 3" wide band of hand-made black Chantilly lace at the top. There are pink roses and foliage painted on the surface of the satin; some decoration is on the wooden spokes as well. The painting is beautifully done. This fan is in fine although not perfect condition. There are two loose spokes. It is certainly pretty enough to frame. It dates from the 1890's.
