Turtle Creek Antiques, Inc.
is now SOLDThis beautiful sterling silver letter opener is a petite size, designed for a lady's use. It is only 6 inches long, compared to a gentleman's opener which is 2-3 inches longer. The maker is Kirk & Sons, Inc. of Baltimore, a company which has been in business since 1815. This item is still in production, although the Kirk website says it is currently "out of stock." The pattern, a pretty floral repousse design of a dahlia-like flower, dates back to the 1800's. This opener is in fine vintage condition; the blade shows signs of use over the years. The handle has darkened attractively, showing off the floral design to advantage; a reason to display this vintage opener on your antique desk. It weighs 21.8 grams.
