These whimsical clip earrings are from Jerry Fels of Los Angeles and bear his trademark "Matisse," which was used for his pieces with enamel work. The earrings are in the form of half-masks, but the design is abstract and also suggests cats' eyes and eyeglasses. There are two burnished copper ovals per earring mounted on top of the pretty enameled background piece. The enamel is speckled and ranges in color from pinkish to blue with darker blue dots. The enamel is slightly different on each earring; they are hand made and not exactly alike. These earrings have a distinctly Modernist design and date from between 1945 and 1965. They are in excellent original condition. They are clips and can be worn at different angles; they do not necessarily sit level on the ear. The clips are not too tight; they are comfortable to wear.
