Vintage Mexican Silver Pin with AmethystVintage Mexican Silver Pin with AmethystVintage Mexican Silver Pin with AmethystVintage Mexican Silver Pin with Amethyst

This lovely older Mexican silver pin is actually of a silver content purer than sterling, 980 parts per 1000. It is so marked, and also marked "Taxco;" Taxco is a town in southern Mexico that sits on a mountain of silver. Many, many artisans live and work there. This pin is older, dating from the 1930's or 1940's, before the Eagle registry mark was required. It is cast silver and finished well. The pin is flat with incised Aztec-design work finished with niello to make it stand out. The pin has obvious signs of hand-work, such as asymmetry in the design. The centerpiece is an oval cabochon amethyst of good quality, nicely bezel-set. The pin is 2 1/2" X 1 1/4" X 1/4" thick. The amethyst is 9/16" X 3/8." This pin is in excellent original condition with a safety catch and weighs 13.2 grams.
