This lovely oval gold-filled brooch dates from the late Victorian era, around 1900-1920. The oval stone is a beautiful and somewhat pictorial agate cabochon that has been highly polished and beveled around the edges. The agate is translucent, from clear to pale white-ish gray and brown through reddish brown. The agate looks like those found in the American Southwest, but there are no marks on the pin to identify it for certain. The agate is held into the decorative oval "crown" mount with many prongs. There is a safety catch, an early one with a reverse mechanism. The in measures 1 1/2" wide by 1 1/4" high by 1/4" thick. This one-of-a-kind brooch is in excellent original condition. The stone is flawless.
