This very pretty quilt dates from mid-Century. Its fabrics, all the same except for color, are a blend of cotton and linen and have a soft sheen. The quilt has never been washed, so the fabrics have retained their newness. The pencil lines where the quilting design was sketched on are still visible (these will come out when the quilt is washed). The 2 3/4" squares that make up the design are machined pieced using the "Seminole patchwork" technique. The overall design of the quilt, quite graphic, is called "Grandmother's Dream" or "Trip around the World." This piece has a lovely use of color, utilizing several shades of pink, green, yellow, and blue. The quilting, forming 1" squares, is by hand at 8 stitches per inch. The backing is a candy pink, typical of the era. The quilt, never used is in excellent original condition. It fits a twin or full-sized bed at 72" X 74" or may be hung on the wall for a beautiful effect. It may be washed in cold water. This quilt is part of a collection formed during the 1980's and 1990's by a Chicago area collector.
