This fun quilt would be perfect for a little girl's bed, but it at 70" X 78" it is almost large enough to fit a full-sized bed. It hangs like a bedspread on a twin bed. The quilt features repeated figures of a little girl in a sunbonnet with no face; Sunbonnet Sue, from children's books of the early twentieth century, never had a face. Each figure includes a printed dress with hat and shoes in a coordinating solid. All 54 figures are different. The appliqué work was done by hand and accented with black chain stitch embroidery. The hand quilting is beautiful at 8-9 stitches per inch. The design was formed by placing a glass on the fabric and using it to make a circle, then overlapping the circles. There is a cable-design border. The maker dedicated this quilt "To June 1939." This quilt is in excellent original condition with no apparent wear. It has been recently machine washed (cold water) and dried in the dryer on cool.
