This hand-wrought butterfly pin is silver filigree work from Asia, dating from the early twentieth century. There is a gold wash over the silver. The pin is decorated with areas of plique a jour enamel work in green and turquoise blue. The butterfly has its wings spread; it sits erect as if ready to take wing. Its body and antennae look alert. There is a brace holding the wings to the pin bar to add strength. The mark "800" is on the back of the pin bar; this indicates a silver content of 800/1000 silver. The safety clasp is functional. This butterfly is 1 3/8" wide, 1 1/8" high, and 1/2" wide. It is in excellent original condition.
