This 9" English ironstone pottery plate has a deep blue transfer underglaze design that is softly blurred. This effect occurred when the the plate was fired and caused such pieces to be called "flow blue." This plate has a romantic scenic design, "China," of a temple in the foreground with a figure in a boat in the background. There is a fancy border design as well. The maker is W. Adams & Co, the age around 1891. The plate is in good condition with one 1/2" scratch on the surface, some faint crazing, and edge wear; there are no chips or cracks , and the glaze is not worn. This is an attractive and decorative antique plate, ready for your home.
