The iridescent rainbow effect in the natural shell surface is beautiful and the spiral curve of the handle lends great visual interest.
Really lovely and certain to make a great addition to your table scape - a true testimony to your special ability to create a wonderful visual delight for your family and guests!
This one is in excellent condition and is 7" long. The scoop part is 3 1/4" x 2 1/8" long. Excellent condition.
We do not know the age or origins of this spoon, but we think it was made in the Pacific Rim. There can be quite a variation in construction too. We have seen some rather shoddily put together ones where the handle meets the scoop. This one, however, is very well constructed and formed and where the handle attaches to the scoop it is very secure and handsomely done.
Traditionally, shell spoons are also called 'egg' spoons (a reference to roe or caviar) and are used to serve foods sourced from the sea as salt will pit and damage silver but will not cause a problem for these natural servers. Therefore, it is suitable for doling out caviar, white fish salad, shrimp, etc. Enjoy!
