This large late Wedgwood, 10 1/4" plate, is transfer printed in deep, dark blue showing good detail and good contrast.

This plate was produced in 1877.

The series of month designs were executed on tiles and plates and in blue and white as well as polychrome and brown. Always a fan favorite, they are harder and harder to find in good condition. This one is in excellent condition.

Helen Miles was the artist tasked to design them. Each plate brilliantly depicts a figural scene typifying a specific seasonal occurrence. In this case, April showers. Here, two young people are shown in the rain under an umbrella. It is a delightful way of presenting the month of April
