This is a Chinese gilt silver (sterling) googly-eyed fish with blue enamel scales and tail stripes. The gilt silver is a tight mesh-like construction. This one has all 4 flippers as well as its top fin. Several chain links remain on the top fin.

The distinguishing characteristic of these older articulated fish are the well-made googly or telescoping eyes. Newer ones have a beaded brass ring round the eyes. The old ones do not. Here the eyes have black center, an encircling enamel yellow band and an orange outer band.

Excellent condition.

It measures 3 1/2" making it perfect for display or wearing as pendant. Each segment bends (articulates) as do the eyes.
