Large, ferocious, and simply spectacular, this pair is a true standout!
Standing 18" tall and weighing 18 pounds (9 each), they will guard your space and fill you with pride!
Every detail, every choice of color adds to the total composition.
They are a 'true' pair - female and male (female is the one with the baby foo dog, and the male is the one with the orb.
Excellent condition with the exception of years of grime. We were able to give both of them a bath, but not wanting to 'manhandle' them, there is still quite a bit of grime left in crevices and recesses.
Please note that in 25 years we have come across only two similar examples. One pair, from a well-reputed auction house, dated these to the Kangxi period (1654-1722) while another knowledgeable dealer, dates them to the late 1800's and possible first quarter 20th century. We will lean on the latter dating - late 19th to early 20th century just to be conservative.
Both bottoms were covered with an old piece of felt which we removed (easily came off) but remnants of glue remain impregnated into the ceramic. We were able to discern very slight printing, but no evidence of an impressed mark. The slight printing is totally unreadable and our camera was not able to pick it up.
