This is an exquisite and very large example of the Gorham pierced heart-shaped bowl that is generally considered to be an extension of the Chantilly flatware pattern, but it 'holloware' (all silver items that do not function is flatware). You can find these bowls from 3" to 12" although we have never seen a 12" bowl! An 11" one recently sold for over $1200.00!
Also, please note that in two of our pictures we show this bowl with a 5" bowl - that is just to illustrate the vast difference in size. Owners of different sized ones keep them nested when stored as shown as well. The 5" bowl is or will be listed separately and we also have a large 8" one available and listed separately.
This bowl is up on 3 large ball feet. It measures 9 3/4" tall by 8" wide at the shoulder. It is not monogrammed and is in excellent condition. We have left tarnish in the creases and other hard to get at areas as it gives the bowl more dimension and we believe adds to the charm. As a general rule, we do not do more than give our ornate sterling pieces more than a moderate hand polish as we do not personally appreciate brightly, overpolished items. However, some folks do and rest assured that this piece could be polished to a high gleam with the use of a wheel by a professional. We will leave that to you.
