We are very proud to offer this museum quality piece for sale. Without doubt, it is OUR BEST EVER offering of Royal Crown Derby (RCD).
Executed with, perhaps some of the best raised gold and enamel work ever produced by RCD, this spectacular piece meets every check mark for the best in grandeur, quality of execution, composition, color, etc.
It's size is MASSIVE at 15" high x 9" across the body and 29" around the body. The proportions are amazingly balanced - something between an Oriental ginger jar but not quite as bulbous and a not-so-classic English form. The large splayed foot is somewhat reminiscent of ancient Chinese glass pieces, but the rest is purely European.
The raised gilding of flowers leaves and general flora forms somewhat of a backdrop to the very large central cartouche. That central focal point consists of subtly shaded gold to light blue fan or shell shape at the center top, with a lattice-work of raised turquoise enameling filling in the rest. (The blue looks more green in some of our photos).
And let's not forget the magnificent lid! Chunky and adorned with a multitude of raised gold dots or 'jewels'.
It is date marked 1892. Although we do not have resources to identify the decorator the quality assures us that it was executed by a factory master.
Oh...and don't forget to note the pierced medallions around the top of the shoulder! Another fabulous touch.
The pure white porcelain interior is unblemished. Someone applied small felt pads on the rim of the lid and the bottom of the foot. We have chosen to keep them there. There is also an old label identifying the maker and date that we have chosen to keep in place.
As you can see from photos, the form without the lid retains a wonderful sense of proportion so can easily be used as a vase as well!
The condition is exceptionally good (sublime, really!!) with absolutely no chips, cracks, repairs, crazing etc. There are a few small glaze flakes where the lid must have been touching the red ground before the pads were put on and on the reverse there is a light scratch to the surface glaze.
Be prepared my friends - wherever you may choose to display this piece, it will definitely create some audible oohs and aahs from guests to your home and some you will likely say to yourself every time you look at it!!
