We are very proud to present to you this exceedingly RARE pair of Volkstedt Plaques.
Any of you who follow my site and are familiar with our jasper ware plaques, especially those made by Volkstedt, will instantly recognize the superior quality of the figures and composition. What you have never seen from us is this color way. Now and then we find some rare color combinations, but this is the first where the background and figures are nearly a pure white with a tinge of yellow and trimmed in a sepia tone, a coral color, and bright gold highlights on vital areas. Amazing and simply Beautiful!
There are 6 cherubs (or putti or angels) on each plaque and nearly all are playing or holding an instrument. Everything from a tambourine to a flute. Another feature is an interesting mask on the bottom side of one plaque and on the opposing plaque on the right lower side a grouping of instruments.
They measure approx. 14" x 9". Very three dimensional with hands and legs sticking out.
Both plaques bear the blue Volkstedt starburst marking on the reverse and have the strong hanging rings still attached. The condition is overall excellent in that hanging on the wall, unless you have superhuman vision, from about 12 inches away you will not see any of the small damages. They are shown with a black star. Also, please be aware that we are only able to list 9 different photos so more are available upon request.
Dates from mid-to late 1800s up to 1904.
Also, please take a look at our inventory #twt3156 which is the same plaque as the one with the mask, done in dark green and white.
Our pricing reflects the condition but also the rarity and the fact that it is a related pair.
