This lily pattern is a quintessential Art Nouveau period design. The floral features are done in a naturalistic manner and the whiplash-like design of the stems leading up to the 'business' end of the servers reinforce the aesthetic of the period.
We have always favored this pattern but we are rarely able to acquire pieces for a price that allows to resell to you. We were fortunate enough to acquire this set and are proud to offer it you.
The pattern was design by John T. Clulee and was patented in 1903. By that time International Silver had acquired the original manufacturer (Simpson, Hall, Miller & Co.) and International continued to use the Simpson hallmark as found on this set.
The condition is excellent and they have no monograms!
We have only hand polished them and while doing so observed little to no signs of use or wear. Each measures 9". Together they weigh approx. 8.7 oz. The spoon's bowl especially but the fork as well, feature shell-like-features. We especially love how the pattern overflows into the blow and fork and appears on the reverse as well. There you can clearly see the reeds whose stems form the curviness of the whiplash feature.
The pattern is extremely crisp which is also an indication of little wear and no excessive polishing. We absolutely love that a century plus patina is still evident in the crevices of the design. It makes them 'come alive'.
We hope you appreciate these as much as we do. And if you haven't already thought about it, these would make THE perfect 25th Year Silver Wedding Anniversary gift.
