This enchanting Late Georgian or Early Victorian puffy heart is a perennial favorite. Harder and harder to find, this type of keepsake was usually passed down from Mother to Daughter over many lifetimes.
The front is complete covered with pavé turquoise which even appear on the matched bail! The stones vary in color from a vibrant true turquoise blue to a deep turquoise green. All are natural seed turquoise. Truly a very charming and wearable antique bauble.
We think it was meant to be worn on a chain or ribbon around the neck and the window in the back would allow you to peer through to see a lock of hair that was encased inside. Here, the locket compartment is empty. The glass is still intact. It could also be worn on a bracelet as a charm.
It measures 1 3/4" (including the bail) x 3/4" and is 1/2" thick. There is a tiny 2 part hallmark on the bail but we could not decipher the markings.
Excellent, antique condition. The locket 'window' on the reverse side is perfectly fine, but the edges of the silver rim are, as shown, a bit raggedy from where someone must have too forcefully tried to pry it open. It fits very snuggly and with gentle prodding comes up quite easily so you can put a lock of hair or other personal memento into it.
Typically selling in the $1,100-1,500.00 range we have priced it lower here to reflect the minor imperfection mentioned above regarding the locket window.
