Holding a scroll in his left hand, this berobed fella wears a ruyi-shaped jade necklace and is likely a high-ranking member of the Imperial court. Perhaps one of the Emperor's teachers!
Marked on the base in a manner used prior to 1920, we think he dates from the late 19th century to the early teens of the 20th.
Much of the figure is done in an overglazed, matte manner while the face and hand with the scroll, for example, are in a high gloss manner.
Because the majority of the color is the yellow of his robe both in the front and the back, it could be considered "famille jeune".
He measures 12" tall and is in excellent condition.
