We purchased this pendant from the same person we purchased the fabulous chilong jade piece from (sold). She worked for nearly 30 years with an antique dealer who specialized in oriental antiques in both New York City and in Boca Raton, Florida. She doubled as a caretaker for his wheelchair-bound wife. When he retired and sold his business, this lady was given 'first dibs' on some of his prized pieces. This was one of the several antique jade items she acquired from him about 20 years ago.
This axe-form pendant is carved with archaistic mask-like images. It measures 3 1/4" x 1 1/2". It has several natural occlusions which are evident in the photos. Both sides are carved.
We had a dealer in our area who specialized in antique orientalia to appraise this and a few other pieces of jade when we first bought them a few years ago and we think that the $2,000.00 appraisal is high although their appraisal for the jade chilongs was right on target and we sold it for about half of the appraisal price (still can be seen under 'sold' items on our site). We are listing it for a little higher than that appraised price and will consider reasonable offers.
