While amazingly simple and modern looking in both shape and style, this beautifully decorated cup and saucer was made in 1897.
It bears the Royal Worcester puce hallmark with the date code for 1897. There is a lot of bright burnished gilding (the type that could only be done back then - not the brassy looking gilding done today). The simple black border is ringed by a floral or berry type leaf pattern accented by raised black jewels all around.
The condition is excellent. Demitasse size with a cup shape referred to as a 'can' shape (for obvious reasons). The saucer measures 4 5/16" in diameter and the cup 2 1/16" in diameter. It is 2 1/8" high.
