With a wonderful warm golden brown patina and great graining, these two boxes definitely belong together!
Purchased together and much loved over the years, these two have been side by side for most of my life and who knows whose life before me!
In all of this time I never tried or thought to try to see if the smaller box fits inside the larger one and lo and behold it nests inside, with the lid, perfectly!
There was a time when I collected boxes, especially wooden ones. I loved the idea of having something that was functional, beautiful, and displayable and these fit the bill perfectly.
Obviously hand turned they have that subtle design flare of the rings at top, bottom, and top of simple lid. They are both in excellent condition.
The larger one measures 6 1/2" high and approx. 4" in diameter. The smaller one is 4 7/8" high x 3 1/8" in diameter.
We have not been able to identify the type of wood. Our best guesses are walnut or mahogany. Photos are clear enough that if you are knowledgeable about wood types you will probably be able to identify it.
