Many of my followers are aware that periodically I am able to acquire one of these cups (in a variety of colors - white, green, blue, etc.). We used to find them regularly but over the last five or so years they have come to market less and less frequently and those for sale have risen dramatically in pricing - thus often making them too expensive for us to purchase for resale to you.
Fortunately, we were able to acquire a pair three of these extraordinary Queen Margrethe cups made by Anton Michelsen of Copenhagen, Denmark. Each is in extraordinary condition and we proudly offer them for sale.
Each is dramatically gold-washed which makes them look like jewelry! They have 8 distinct lobed sides with each lobe divided by a gadroon (rope-like) strip. The upper and mid section horizontal areas are chased in a foliate pattern while the bottom horizontal area has a double layered beaded design. The flat bottom extends outward from the body giving it a very sturdy foot which is also a beautifully balanced feature to the widening flared top. The brilliant white pearlescent enamel has a subtle guilloche'd pattern visible in the top quarter area and visible in the photographs.
The cup measures 2 3/8" in height. It is 2 7/8" across the top and 2 5/16ths across the bottom. They weigh 116 gms each - feeling quite hefty in the hand.
The condition is mint with no damages to the silver, gold-wash, or enamel. There is a bit of tarnishing in the nooks and crannies which can be polished but which we will leave to do by the new owner.
From this listing you may purchase one or all. The pricing is for one. If you wish to purchase more than one, make sure to indicate the quantity when the option comes up on the purchase order.
We did extensive searches and found one for sale at $950.00 and another for over $1,000.00!
