Whenever I have had the opportunity to acquire one or more of these I have because they are so aesthetically interesting looking and usually functional as incense burners.
This is actually one of a pair. I was forced to list them separately because we can only have 10 photos per listing and combined, there are more. Please make sure to see the other listing. The difference between the two is that this one is predominantly turquoise while the other is predominantly coral.
Many people don't even realize that the head comes completely off. This was to allow incense to be placed inside the body. When lit, the smoke would pour out of the foo dog's fierce looking mouth! Really cool! In this case both the head and the body are capped off with the same metal as used to fashion the body which would disable incense from being placed inside the body or for it to rise up through the head and exit from the mouth. The chambers left in the body and head would allow for something small to be squirreled away inside - a great alternative function!
Particularly fine in this smaller size as the smaller stones, especially on the head, are really fine looking (actually more like really 'cute'!). It is in excellent condition with only a few missing stones. One is a larger coral stone on the cowl (or mane) of the head (shown in photo) and one or two in the body of the small turquoise pieces.
It measures 4" x 5".
Don't forget to see its pair-mate!! (item #twt3430 and shown in first picture).
