This 19th century mezzotint has marvelous deep, rich colors and is framed in an antique frame. It is one of a pair purchased from an estate of a very astute antique collector.
As you can see, because of the reflective glass, it is hard to get an image without a lot of reflection. Please see past the reflections to the actual image and you will see just how wonderful it is. We suspect that the image is probably of our forefathers contemplating important documents such as the Declaration of Independence or Constitution. One of the gents looks a bit like Benjamin Franklin. Also, the furnishings are reminiscent of pictures we have seen from paintings showing these discussions.
What's fun is that the second of the pair of mezzotints (listed separately) shows them celebrating after!! They really do belong together.
The print is in excellent condition. The frame has some losses as you can see in the photos.
Frame size is approx. 14" x 12" and image size is approx. 8" x 6".
We have seen mezzotints of this quality sell in the high hundreds through a gallery or antique shop. We have priced this and its mate more reasonably as we want them to stay together and go to an appreciative home.
