This figure depicts an official of the emperor. He wears a queue (long braid). His hat, is adorned with raised gold dragons chasing the magic pearl. Also, the knobs atop his hat identifies him as an official of the Imperial Court.
He is shown standing atop a low pedestal. His deep red robe is decorated with an embroidered round medallion (badge). There is also a medallion on the back of the robe. His shoulders are capped by a short cape. He is holding a branch of coral in his left hand. We do not know the significance or symbolic meaning of this object.
He is in excellent condition with one paint fleck on the back bottom of his robe.
The figures shown in the group photo are each listed separately and may or may not be available. We did sell a very similar group of figures recently.
This figure measures just under 11 3/4" high.
Please note that these figures or similar ones (although perhaps not with as much detail and fineness) have been made for decades in various sizes and various levels of quality. This one is particularly good and with good age to him. Likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century.
Also, please note the black and white photo dating from the turn of the 20th century showing a member of the Imperial Court seated and dressed in traditional clothing.
