Similar to our listing twt2872, this peking glass figure is another example of the glass-making arts of 19th century China. Not quite as refined as our other French blue specimen, this one holds its own!

She is commonly known as the 'Goddess of Mercy', this exquisite antique Peking Glass figurine is also called Qwan Yin or Kwan Yin or even Quanyin!

Molded in the 19th century, well over 100 years ago, in a gorgeous shade of beautiful (sometimes referred to as) 'French' opaque blue, it is good to keep in mind that French glassmakers had great influence over the art glass made in China during the 18th and 19th centuries. Also, it was the Chinese glassmaker's desire to choose colors that resembled gemstones such as turquoise, amber, or jade for example. This magnificent piece most definitely resembles turquoise.

She is commonly known as the 'Goddess of Mercy', this exquisite antique Peking Glass figurine is also called Qwan Yin or Kwan Yin or even Quanyin!

She is in excellent condition with absolutely no chips or cracks. The only anomaly is in the mottling of the color. Clearly, the batch of glass was not evenly mixed and thus these variations arose. All white areas are glare spots.

She stands on a very low fitted stand probably made at the same time as the figure itself. She measures 10 1/4" tall and the stand is an additional 1/2" high.

The last two photos show this one alongside the French Blue one with and without the stand so you can compare them.

Because of the mottling, this one is not museum quality like our other one, but it is still a very fine one and would make a great addition to your collection.
