This lovely ginger jar was exported from China to the US sometime between 1890s-1920. It features applied figural items such as a long-necked bird (probably a crane), lotus blossoms, and other floral elements. This gives it a very three dimensional appearance.
The background color that dominates the jar is a wonderful shade of green and the other colors range from pale yellows to deep reddish purples. The colors are nicely balanced which is why it is so pleasing to the eye.
This jar measures approx. 7 1/2" tall and is about 6 1/4" in diameter across the widest area. It has a partial red stamp on its bottom that says "China" which helps to date it. And please note that later versions do not have as much applied work all around the piece like this does. Also, as you can see in the close up views, there is quite a bit of texture applied (see crane specifically).
