We just welcomed this fabulous stein to our Goebel Friar Tuck collection. Naturally, as our newest addition, it is our pride and joy.
Ironically, purchased as a Friar Tuck, we now think this is not a Friar Tuck which typically has brown eyes (although sometimes shown with cross eyes) and a bare head. This one has blue eyes and is wearing a skull cap.
Clearly though, the same molds were used for this and the Friar Tucks as the body mold is the same pose and actually the head is only slightly different. Also, we have had the large Friar Tuck stein before and it just has a pewter lid - not a figural lid as this one is.
Regardless, this one is fabulous! While on this site it does not qualify as 'antique' which by their definition is 100 years or older, it is certainly an antique in most people's eyes at around 60 years old. It has the 'full bee' Goebel hallmark on the base.
It is in fabulous condition. Probably never used and only displayed. The stein measures about 6 1/2" high x 6 1/2" across including the handle. The base measures 4 1/4" in diameter. On one side (in the mold) is '0,5?' which we think is 1/2 liter for volume content.
Very rare! Priced accordingly.
