Very Large Jasperware Plaque of Mandolin Player - Extremely 3D
Although the maker of this plaque is unknown (no telltale markings) we do know that it had to be made by a top rate company. Probably in Germany.
This plaque is large, intricate, and very 3 dimensional. You will see that from the photos. It looks fabulous hanging on the wall.
The plaque measures 10 1/2" x 10 1/2" x 3" deep (!!!).
The mold used to produce this piece must have been very fresh as the details in both the figure and the background are very crisp and there are lots and lots of them.
It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, etc.
As an aside...many of our collectors have honed their collections by selecting certain features to focus on. For example, one collects plaques only with angels. Another collects only musically oriented ones. Another is interested in plaques with unique and interesting floral details. Some collect only mythologically themed ones, or romantically themed ones. Then there are those that collect only nudes or semi-nudes. Some like them framed, others not. Some collect only those with ornate, scrolly rims while others like the edges straight or round and smooth. Then of course, there are those of us who like to mix them all together. There are so many different ways to view these beautiful plaques that makes collecting them both a pleasure and an endless challenge.
