This beautiful bird - perhaps a pheasant, peacock, bird of paradise, or perhaps a fantasy bird!
On the reverse, it is marked sterling silver Germany. The plumed tail and part of the wing are enhanced with glittery faceted marcasites while the eye is red. The body is enamelled in shades of chartreuse, cobalt, green, and touches of a darker color.
She (or he) is in excellent condition and measures 2 3/16" x 7/8".
We have quite a few of these German made pins available. Most of them were originally designed by Alice Caviness. It is my understanding that if part of a parure (set of jewelry) then only one of the pieces was signed with her name. Thus many show up without her name. The last photo shows examples from a catalog page of her designs. All are charming!
