Atkins butterfly pins are to England, what Marius Hammer pins are to Norway, and what Georg Jensen jewelry is to Denmark. Tops!
This one is deep red enamel over a guilloche (machine-engineered) ground with black veining and borders on the wings and yellow for the body and accents and the Birmingham England date mark puts it at 1917.
The condition is excellent. It measures 2 1/4" x 1 1/4".
I bought it as "mint" but upon close inspection found that the surface has a nearly a century's worth of surface scratches. One of the photo closeups was taken to show the surface as it really is. Please note that the camera's closeup was taken at 3" from the surface whereas this will probably never be viewed at less than 18" if you are wearing it and at that distance, the scratches disappear completely. There are no chips and losses to the enamel. If this pin didn't have some surface scratches, the price would be considerably higher.
