This beautiful 2 piece set consists of a large serving spoon and fork in a size and shape that would most likely be considered a salad set.
Both have distinctive and beautifully rendered Egyptian motifs. The tip of the handle features a pharoah's head with other leaves and symbols trailing below along the full length of the handle. These are done in high relief. The base surface is beautifully textured in a pebbly pattern.
There is also simple but lovely detail on the plain back side with how the bowl portions attach to the handle. Great attention to the details.
They are not marked with the maker's name - just with the word "sterling". We think they were artisan made and are one-of-a-kind pieces. Impossible to determine age, but we believe these were done pre-WWII in the USA. Elements are similar to Whiting's Egyptian pattern but these are much more detailed and intricately produced.
They measure 9 3/8" (fork) and 9 1/4" (spoon). They are thick, sturdy and heavy at 7 troy ounces.
Condition is excellent with just light tarnishing and a great patina developing in the crevices! Once you own them you can choose to polish or leave as is. Your choice!
