This exquisite vase is both hallmarked on the base as Sevres and has a signature on the right hand corner of the portrait.
The small fine porcelain vase has lots of raised gold decoration and a gilt bronze mount. The predominant color is cobalt blue with a brilliant white body and all the gold handpainted work.
The portrait is bordered in an iris or orchid framed border (as is the back side cartouche). The flow of the design and some of the features screams art nouveau period to me (late 1800s-1910) but it could be earlier.
It is in excellent condition. In the lower right corner of the portrait there appears to be an artist's signature. The winged-headed portrait might be Mercury or possibly even Perseus as both are often represented with wings sprouting from the head. Only problem is that both are male figures and this portrait looks decidedly female. Many male figures found in mythology are shown with long flowing hair so it is still possible. Perhaps a reader knows the mysterious identity of this winged creature!
The vase measures 6 1/8" tall and is just about 3" wide at the widest. Very fine quality and excellent condition..
