In a rectangular wooden frame finished in black with a dark metal ring surrounding the oval opening, this wonderful portrait is also signed.

Please note that there are several more miniature portraits listed individually so please make sure to view them all as well.

The frame measures approx. 6 3/8" x 5 3/8". The oval of the portrait is approx. 3 1/2" x 2 1/2". The detailing is wonderful and her piercing eyes are compelling. As this portrait is behind glass (please note the reflections) and sealed in the back it has never been removed and it is impossible to tell what surface it is painted on. Therefore, we choose to err on the side of it being celluloid and have priced it accordingly.

The signature over her right shoulder is unreadable. It is in excellent condition.

Due to a kind reader of my portrait listings pointing me to something called King Ludwig's 'Gallery of Beauties' it is a fair conclusion that this portrait was copied from one of those. Here is what Wikipedia says, (in part)about the Gallery of Beauties: ' a collection of 36 portraits of the most beautiful women from the nobility and middle classes of Munich, Germany, painted between 1827 and 1850 (mostly by Joseph Karl Stieler, appointed court painter in 1820) and gathered by Ludwig I of Bavaria in the south pavilion of his Nymphenburg Palace in Munich. Two additional ones were created by Friedrich Dürck.
