Amazingly Detailed "Pigeon Blood" Ginbari Akasuke Cloisonne Vase with Roses on Sterling
This magnificently executed pigeon blood (so called because of the deep red color of the background) is exceptional for several reasons. The gradation of colors in the enamel is very difficult to accomplished and has been done very skillfully. This type of foil work is called akasuke (red) Ginbari Cloisonne and it covers the entire vase.
It is mounted in a sterling silver base and rim. Even the greens of the leaves and shades are wonderfully shaded. The background red color is done atop a foiled engineered ground of bamboo leaves and patterning.
This vase is in excellent condition - no damages at all. There is no signature or hallmark that I could find anywhere on this vase. Tested for sterling. It is 7 3/8" tall.
