Karl Demetz is known primarily as a landscape and animal painter , but his work covers a much wider range. Stylistically, his paintings are "a late impressionism and naturalism assign", sometimes showed Demetz but also an "expressive-impasto brushstroke". He was inspired by the landscape of the Swabian Alb, here was the habitat of the animals that he painted with preference: sheep, cows and horses. At that time, cows and horses, as draft animals, were still associated with the peasant man in his daily dealings. In the pictures of Karl Demetz the rural life, the harmony of man, creature and nature is artistically captured.
Karl Demetz's works were appreciated by art dealers and art lovers during his lifetime. His oeuvre encompasses a wide range of motifs and expressions. The Museum Auberlehaus in Trossingen houses a comprehensive collection of his works. However, this is mostly not accessible and is shown only in the context of special exhibitions. His works are still highly traded today - especially in the Swabian region.
