This circa 1950's fine bone china demitasse set was made by Royal Doulton of England in the sought after "Reynard the Fox" pattern, introduced in 1953 and produced until 1979. The set features a hunt motif with various images of a red fox which have been molded in low relief and hand painted. The service for 6 includes;
1 lidded coffee pot
1 open sugar bowl
1 cream jug
The demitasse cups depict the fox in three poses: face on, looking left and sleeping. The coffee pot, cream jug and sugar bowl each feature a different image of Reynard. The angular handles on the serving pieces and cups continue the equestrian sporting theme and are formed as whips with braided lashes which wind around the bases of the items. The saucers are also bordered in a whip motif.
The pieces are in very good condition and are free from damage other than a hairline crack to one of the demitasse cups and chip to the base of the coffee pot. It should also be noted that there is a nick to the mouth of the coffee pot's spout which is slightly out of round and may have been ground at some point. The underside of the pieces bear the green Royal Doulton backstamp along with pattern number H 4927. Measurements of the pieces are as follows:
8.25" tall with lid in place
6.5" from front of spout to back of handle
Open sugar bowl
6" from outside edges of the handles
4.375" by 3.25" mouth
4.5" by 3.5" foot
4.25" from front of spout to back of handle
3.25" from front of rim to back of handle
4.625" in diameter
.5" from table to rim
