Coco Chanel used to say: "If you want to start a jewelry collection, start with a brooch because you will find most use for it. It can be pinned on a suit lapel, collar or pocket, on a hat, belt or evening gown".
From my personal collection--This exquisite and rare CHANEL Cruciform brooch/ pendant and earrings Demi-Parure was designed, crafted and assembled by hand, for a Runway Haute Couture line of 1994 (Fall) in a limited number . As all of the Chanel Runway fashions, It was created for use in that specific couture season only. Both the brooch and the clip-on earrings are crafted in a gold-plate metal base and set with Gripoix glass art multi-color cabochons and golden imitation pearls. The brooch/pendant has a security lock and a large vertical pendant bail which can accommodate a sizable chain or a strand of small pearls. Green, aqua blue, brown amber and dark amethyst round cabochons, surrounding a large clear crystal at the center, are perfectly matched with same color oval cabochons and golden faux pearls, set at each of the triangular-shaped corners of the cruciform.
The clip-on earrings are triangular in shape and match the four corners of the cruciform-shaped brooch. The oval cartouche on the back of both brooch and the earrings. reads: : CHANEL (double C) 1994 PARIS..
Whether you are a collector or an aficionado of rare and elegant jewelry, this unique set is a must have.
DIMENSIONS: Brooch/pin: 4” x 4 “. The oval cabochons are ½” long x 3/8” wide. The round cabochons are 3/8” in diameter the faux golden pearls are 8mm each. Earrings: 1” long x ¾” wide.
MATERIALS: Premium gold-plate metal, 5 oval and 4 round Gripoix art glass colorful cabochons, a clear Gripoix glass crystal and eight golden faux pearls.
VINTAGE AND CONDITION: The 1994 Haute Couture Demi-Parure was manufactured and purchased in France. It is in a very good vintage condition with very little signs of wear due to its age and any light marks, if any, are from normal use and wear. On the back, the grayish area under the bail hinge is where the flux fluid flowed a little bit too much when it was fired. There is a "crusty" patch under the safety clasp. This shows that, as a production choice, the safety clasp was applied before plating and the ball-hinge and pin were applied after the plating process. However, on the earrings, three of the faux pearls (see picture) have small discoloration, probably due to a cleaning agent inadvertently sprayed by me while cleaning the rest of the earring. I have reduced the price accordingly, based on a professional appraisal, after the damage. The brooch had been recently professionally cleaned and had also been appraised by an expert.
About COCO CHANEL– Coco Chanel, French design doyenne of international fame, had revolutionized the field of fashion, both haute couture and pret-a-porte by replacing the over-designed clothes and accessories of 19th century fashions and fashion accessories with functional yet feminine and figure flattering designs. She introduced a line of jewelry that was innovative in its concept both in design and materials, incorporating both simulated and fine gemstones and turned unenviable costume jewelry into a coveted accessory, inspired by the opulent, costly jewels and pearls. Today, the Hose of Chanel is owned and managed by the grandsons of her original first partner, Pierre Westheimer, continues in her footsteps.
CHANEL jewelry, and her vintage jewelry, in particular, is highly treasured, and is one of the most valuable on the market today. It is a good investment for collectors of vintage jewelry.
