The original was designed in 1961 for and worn by Jacqueline Kennedy
From my personal collection-- I was introduced to Kenneth Jay Lane fashion jewelry only during the early 1990's, courtesy of the QVC.. Until then, I was quite partial to the European designers with the exceptions, like Trifari and Ciner and the famous American fine jewelry designers.
This striking and elegant cruciform brooch, offered here, was my first acquisition from this very unique designer. Since the late KJL has never retired the pieces he had created over the years, I did acquire a number of his designs from the years past revived by him in the 1980's and the1990's.
The original of this stunning brooch was designed in 1960's by KJL for and worn by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Named “Jackie O. Star”, it was sold, after her demise, in 1996, at an auction, for $19,550.00 along with a matching bracelet.
This unique, cruciform shaped , brooch is crafted in a premier rhodium-plated metal. The four arms of the cross are covered with layered, bezel-set, marquise-cut large clear, ice-like and ,brilliant Swarovski crystals,. This most beautiful structure is topped by a huge emerald-cut and bezel set octagonal Swarovski clear crystal. The back of the stones is gold foiled for additional luster and KJL signature is stamped on the back of one of the cruciform's arms. The brooch was accompanied by the certificate of authenticity and other papers, which I, unfortunately, have not kept. However, I did enclose here photocopies of the original documentation.
The brooch is very festive and very suitable for the Holidays Season or for an evening gala wear.
