Original Porcelain Art By The Foremost Spanish Artist
From my personal collection -- I began collecting Lladro figurines in the late 1970’s. The harmony of colors and forms of these exquisite works of art had fascinated me. Over the years, my collection had grown and I still enjoy looking at it. Recently, I decided to share with you some of them.
The figurine offered here is entitled “Mother With Child and Lamb” and was designed by one of the foremost Lladro designers, Vincente Martinez, and was handcrafted in a limited edition in 1985. It was retired in 1988. This beautiful, hand painted figurine, is quite rare. This is not only because of its limited edition but also because of its very subject and a stunning artistry. The base has the Lladro logo and the first initial of the artist’s signature “M”.
A peasant woman, her child and their lamb are returning home after a long day on the pasture. There is a feeling of a quiet exhaustion about them and, yet, the idyllic scene also conveys the serenity of a countryside life. Lladro artists have created many variations on the theme of household pets-- cats and dogs-- and children but very few , and far between, of vignettes depicting people with farm animals.
This artful figurine is painted and glazed ** with the characteristic colors of Vicente Martinez' creations: the calm hues of blue, white, grayish-taupe and very light green (See his "SEESAW" figurine which will be soon listed on my site). The folds on the mother's and the little girl's skirts underscore the simplicity of their wear but also convey the feeling of softness and femininity. The lamb is sculptured with attention to every detail and, in miniature, is very life-like.

About Lladro Company: World renown, Lladró is a Spanish company based in Tavernes Blanques, Valencia and established in mid 1950’s, has been famous for their unique art of porcelain figurines. In 1940’s ,the Lladró brothers revisited the history of porcelain manufacturing, creating their own formula for porcelain paste and refining their manufacturing techniques on all fronts: pigments, molds, varnishes, and firing times, resulting in pieces that not only incorporate great beauty, but emphasize quality of the highest kind.
