A veritable wearable art crafted in oxidized 925 Sterling Silver
From my personal collection- There is something about a handcrafted Sterling Silver jewelry that has always been very appealing to me. I began collecting designer handmade silver jewelry in my youth and am still quite attracted to it.
This beautiful art-form designer bracelet was the first silver bracelet in my possession. It was purchased from MASKIT (the then renown arts and crafts center in Israel- read the information below). It was the sculpture like design of the bracelet that had caught my attention and, over the years, it became a staple of my wardrobe.
It is handcrafted in oxidized sterling silver, in a scroll-like, free from, style and is securely fastened with a handmade pin clasp. The pin is affixed to the bracelet with a small chain. It is a very elegant , timeless and go to fashion day to night fashion accessory.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In Israel , marking of sterling silver is not obligatory. Nowadays, some of the silver works are marked according to the international standards but it’s still voluntary. In 1960’s, when this wearable art piece was purchased, being not obligatory, there were no markings or signatures on sterling silver jewelry, in particular that which was hand ma de and designed by artisans, as is the case here. Moreover, having been tested, this piece is made of 925 Sterling Silver.

About Maskit: In the 1950’s, there was a large immigration to the young State of Israel , bringing with it, among others , a multitude of artisans from all over the world. The growing population and, with it, a growing unemployment, created a considerable economical hardship on the infant country and on the newcomers. An idea to employ the traditional artisan talents of the newcomers in a cottage-like industry and sell their products became a reality when the first Israeli fashion house, MASKIT, opened in the early 1960’s. MASKIT, in biblical Hebrew means ORNAMENT. The first store, and subsequently many others both in Israel and elsewhere (including New York’s Bergdorf Goodman and Saks)) became known for their artistic, hand-made designs of beautifully embroidered dresses, silver and gold jewelry and home décor.
DIMENSIONS: 7.25” long X 2” wide. Weight: 70 grams.
