Zillah Katherine MacDonald was a Canadian author of many mysteries for young readers. This first edition of Haunthouse, published in 1931, is an eerie mystery about a "plucky Canadian girl". "When Iona takes a position as secretary-companion to old Mrs. Huey, eccentric and bedridden, the action of Haunthhouse begins. Through the rooms of the Huey dwelling, a dismal, rambling, weatherbeaten pile, strange things are in in unoccupied corners. WEird screams are heard of nights. Furniture is moved about my unseen hands...". The book has a label on the inside cover of Montebello School. The book was a gift to Irene North by the Parent-Teacher Association in June 1931. The book is a bit faded, especially along the binding and there is shelf wear. The pages are a bit yellowed, but they are clean and tight. There is one stain near the upper right corner on the front cover. The book was illustrated by Decie Merwin. A wonderful read for the young mystery lover!
